Artist Statement
In my painting and artwork I have I try to capture color, light, texture and a sense of the object. I use color to create subtle abstract forms, which show in particular the interrelationship of forms, lines, colors and dominant direction. The composition and form dominate. I begin the design of a piece through drawing. Words have never come easily for me. Rather through drawing what is intuitively inside of me comes out. I never quite feel like I am control of this expression yet it pulls me along. Yet at the same time, I embrace the sense of something “concrete”, the nearly finished product; the fine-tuning of an image, an installation…the unexpected, My work is evocative and expresses a feeling about an experience I have had or a place I have been. It is often about a change of time, season or natural condition. My art is an expression of my feelings about structure, order and subtle complexity.
