Artist Statement
I have a great curiosity about and emotions towards the sea and art. When I was a child, my family went to the sea and aquariums every summer, which made my strong curious towards sea itself and sea animals. At the beach or under the sea we can find shells, colorful fish, peculiar creatures like starfish, sea cucumber, jellyfish and sea slugs and a lot of others. I am amazed that how the variety of lives this world have. I studied Public policy and Biology as my undergraduate degree in Tokyo. After my graduation, I've started thinking about making something with seashells that is new for everyone in this world, it was in 2013. I am making works related to nature subjects, especially sea and shells. I present shells in my works as a material or subject of concept. Although there are more than 100,000 species of seashells in the world, there are no shells exactly same even though they are same species, just like us, human. That is the point I am falling in love with sells.
